*repeat repeat w/ The Mammoths live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

A self-described family business, *repeat repeat was founded by Jared Corder — a former punk-rock kid raised on the sounds of Bad Religion and Black Flag. The goal was simple: to make edgy, guitar-driven music that nodded to the classic sounds of Jared's California birthplace, complete with hazy harmonies and surf-inspired arrangements. The problem? The group needed a female harmony singer, and nobody seemed to fit the bill. Things changed when the band's producer, Gregory Lattimer (Albert Hammond Jr.), suggested that Jared's wife, Kristyn, sing with the band. The fit was natural. Kristyn had grown up in and around California, listening to '60s legends like the Mamas and the Papas and The Everly Brothers. She quickly completed the band, sharing vocal duties with Jared and serving as the inspiration for much of Bad Latitude — a debut album largely written by Jared during the couple's engagement, filled with songs about love, life, and the promise of new partnerships along the way. Floral Canyon (their sophomore release) stretches the band's musical envelope, adding depth, drive, and darkness to the sun-baked, surf-tinged pop music that's always been their bedrock. Produced once again by Lattimer, the album tackles modern culture ("Plugged In"), rocky relationships ("Mostly"), religious ideologies ("Speaker Destroyer"), and all points in between. Gluing everything together is the band's melodic, musical attack: equal parts percussive thunder, trembling organ, synth pads, coed harmonies, and wide-ranging guitar parts. The album's name is a sly salute to California's Laurel Canyon, whose rolling hills were home to some of America's best musicians during the '60s and '70s. The SoCal salute came in handy when *repeat repeat caught the attention of notable Silverlake-based label Dangerbird Records, who agreed to release Floral Canyon in the Fall of 2017. It proved to be a busy year as the band saw the departure of Herrin to pursue other projects, a US & Canadian tour with punk sweethearts, Beach Slang, a sold out show with Neon Trees, and a slew of major festival dates including Forecastle Festival, Firefly and SXSW. *repeat repeat’s sound is bold, bi-coastal beach pop, at once coolly current and proudly vintage. It's sugar-coated music with a raw, real, rocky center, and unmistakably *repeat repeat. The Mammoths Beginning in Austin, TX, in the heart of their middle school days, David Kapsner (lead vocals/guitar/piano), Michael Jekot (lead guitar/vocals), and Tyler Rush (bass/vocals) came together to transcend the barrier of blues-rock into funky psych-soul through their various music ventures. Bringing the audacious and wonderfully talented Tim Durand (drums/vocals) into the picture has recently solidified the band with a roaring sound and strength to complement their vibe. Dedication to their music has evolved The Mammoths from garage rock to sophisticated blues-funk, and constant experimentation has allowed each member of the group to always stay true to their roots. Jekot, self-described as playing in the “grunge-endrix” style, notes that Kapsner’s soul-vocals, Durand’s pure metal, and Tyler’s deep, groovy funk stand out in the realm of rock, drawing influence from all over to create a sound that is entirely new, yet curiously familiar. "The Mammoths are an up-and-coming Austin band to watch fueled by their fiery unapologetic live shows reminiscent of a young Led Zeppelin. In meeting with these guys at AMF on their future plans, this band is clearly driven on playing hard and using the old school work ethic of making fans one sweaty show at a time,” said Alex Vallejo (Vallejo Music Group/Austin Music Foundation).

Emma’s Lounge w/ Dr. Bacon live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Emma's Lounge is a “Space Age Folk Wave” band from Asheville, NC. But it’s more than that. Emma’s Lounge is a place where you can show up as you are, sink into and embrace what you’re facing through dancing out all of the heebie jeebies to releasing some tears of angst or joy, to singing at the top of your lungs, to reaching over and holding your neighbor’s hand just to feel the connection. Emma’s Lounge is a community where the love flows for music and each other. Emma’s Lounge offers the “spectrum of feels” to their listeners. They believe that life is about embracing all of its ups and downs. The music tells their stories through encompassing all aspects from the sweet healing soul vibrations of church-like harmonies to the bright funky dance parties to the darkness and rebelliousness of angry metal and punk rock. They write about what they’re experiencing, whether it’s tragic loss or the high feeling of connection with their tribe and literally everything in between. They have loads of energy that is devoted to making an impact wherever they go. Their music, simply put, is an invitation to be vulnerable: to break down the walls that keep us disconnected and inauthentic. Raelyn Nelson Band w/ The Underhill Family Orchestra live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Raelyn Nelson Band As an aspiring female country artist in Nashville, history suggests that the quickest path to success is somehow aligning oneself with one of the major publishers, producers, songwriters, labels, or managers that are the heart of Music Row. So what do you do if you are an aspiring female country artist in Nashville, and also happen to be the granddaughter of musical icon, Willie Nelson? You hook up with an independent producer and veteran of the rock/punk scene, write some songs that are part Loretta Lynn, part Cheap Trick, and form the Raelyn Nelson Band. "I've been told by more than one person in the 'biz' that I'm stubborn like my grandpa. I kind of like that" -Raelyn Nelson. Raelyn Nelson has been singing since she can remember. Having been raised on a steady diet of traditional country and gospel music, a gift from her grandpa in the form of a guitar during her teenage years was the inspiration she needed to begin writing her own country and folk songs. Looking for a place to record these songs, a chance meeting through a mutual friend would provide the backdrop for the next step on her non-traditional career path. Jonathan Bright, veteran of the underground rock scene and independent producer recorded some of these early songs, and they decided to try to write some things together to see what happened. The result? A completely fresh and original sound, a true hybrid and referred to by some critics as "the first installment in what is surely to be the next hip genre in music: Country/Garage Rock." With songs written and sound and sound discovered, Jonathan recruited his bandmates (Paulie Simmons and Preach Rutherford) from hard rockers, Defense Wins Championships, and and a rarity in Nashville materialized: A true, honest to goodness BAND, and not a Music Row creation. The Underhill Family Orchestra is a rowdy, enthusiasticly heart-felt rock n roll band from Mobile, AL. Combining elements of unique vocal stylings with soulful beats and rambunctious instrumentation, their live performances keep you dancin' all night and leave you tappin' your toes on the way home.
